Various musings and occasionally some useful code.

Membership Price Sets

I had to add some price sets to our recent project and I think I managed to get both the existing system and the price set system to work side by side. To give you an idea of why I had to do it, think of this; you have a specific membership open to organisations, the amount that the organisation needs to pay to join is based on its size. A company of 2-4 people will pay less than a 300+ employee company.

Erasmus Darwin Website

Karl has been busy getting a nice design ready for the revamp of www.erasmusdarwin.org So far it looks pretty nice. Alison says that it has been getting positive feedback from the Foundation. A little longer and it'll be ready. Can't wait.

Egg Hunt

This year's easter egg hunt; the first in the Fazeley Studios office has been a success. Around 25 eggs were secreted about the premises and all offices were encouraged to join in the search. Next year will be bigger and better.

Twitter Madness

I was crammed in a train that was half its usual length this morning (which is annoying) and chanced upon a headline when I caught a glimpse of a newspaper over someone's shoulder. It read something like: Driving with no hands so they can twitter.

I think twitter has come under a bit of a bashing recently but I don't think it can be blamed for people's stupidity behind the wheel. There are plenty of in-car reasons why people let go of the wheel that are avoidable. Let me think of a few:

  • Changing CD/Radio Station
  • Lighting cigarettes

Daft Idea

Had a silly idea this morning. I thought it would be fun if a bunch of actors/dancers were to perform shows in the street purely for the cctv cameras that plague our cities. Just imagined a bunch of people doing the Thriller video or Flashdance. Could be a fun way of getting on to the news because in theory there are people watching the cameras.

Darwin on the radio

Darwin on the radio - Just invading this blog for a moment to mention that Alison was recently on BBC Radio WM to talk about EDH and the upcoming events in Lichfield. For a short time you will be able to listen to it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p002mj7f/Carl_Chinn_05_04_2009/ [Erasmus Darwin House]

Barcamp, hmm, sounds interesting

I just read a few posts about a future barcamp in Brum here, it got me thinking a little. After reading this too it got me thinking a lot.

What was I thinking? I was wondering what I'd do for one.

I think right now a list is in order:

  • Something to do with this.
  • Reaching out to new people with social media.
  • What disappeared off my radar.

Social Media Surgery - Fazeley Studios

Social Media Surgery

I can't take any credit for this but on Wednesday I attended a free social media surgery aimed at non-profit/Charity organisations to help them use social media to their advantage.

Apparently it was a quieter event than some according to event organiser Nick Booth - owner of Podnosh. We had a great time and I got involved with helping a charming lady with some computer issues. Most of the discussion was on a one-to-one basis so the information was detailed and specific.

Something in reception has clearly sparked the interest of these two shifty looking characters!
